The problem of cone biopsy and pregnancy is very acute for women who have had a cone biopsy; a repeated colposcopy is necessary for making a decision concerning the future pregnancy.
In about 10% of cervical biopsy, women will develop disorders, such as stenosis, narrowing or closing of the cervical canal which can cause infertility, or an incompetent cervix, which is a weak cervix that may not be able to carry a baby to full term.
